CEAS I: Ergonomics Assessment Certification Workshop

Overview
This online course will instruct the learner/registrant in the basic concepts and principles of occupational ergonomics that will qualify them to evaluate work tasks, identify ergonomic issues and brainstorm options for improvement.

A process for setting up an Ergonomics Program as outlined by the OSHA Ergonomics Program standard (repealed Standard), as well as, how to provide Prevention and Reeducation programs to employees, employers, and clients on reducing the costs associated with musculoskeletal disorders.

Additional topics include upper and lower extremity disorders (including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), back and neck injuries, performing a work site ergonomic analysis, identifying risk areas and providing cost-effective solutions, office ergonomics, exercises for prevention, techniques for effective training, body mechanics (including the revised NIOSH Lifting Formula), and posture.

Emphasis is placed on identifying the underlying causes of the Cumulative Trauma Disorders/Musculoskeletal Disorders, methods to detect and evaluate problems in the work site, approaches to reduce or prevent CTDs/MSDs, including training and exercise programs.

A section on MARKETING that covers "How to Estimate the FINANCIAL Impact of Injuries", a sample proposal and a brief Marketing Plan outline are present in the materials.

Requirements for completion and certification
  1. Learner/registrant must complete a written 100-questions post-test with a 90% correct score.

  2. Learners/registrants must choose one office and one industrial job from the accompanying videotape to analyze, using the OSHA Ergonomics Standard (repealed) Risk Factor Checklist.

  3. Students/learners must submit the RF checklist and a written report for each of these two jobs. Reports should be similar to examples on pages 189 & 190 of the workbook.
Certification / CEU's

Students must complete their written exam and written Ergonomic Reports, they may be submitted by e-mail, fax, or mail for scoring and review WITHIN 90 DAYS. If all the requirements have been met and passed, they will be awarded their certificate as a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist (CEAS). If the above-specified criteria was not met they can resubmit corrected reports for certification, otherwise they will be awarded a certificate of completion and CEU's without certification as a CEAS. IN ALL CASES STUDENTS WILL BE AWARDED CEU'S.*

*CEUs: It is important that you contact your state licensing board for information regarding the amount of continuing education credits allowed for online courses. The amount of CEU's that are normally given for this workshop in the classroom,1.5 CEUs or 15 contact hours are calculated at the standard 1/10 of a credit per 60 minutes of study, except in states where pre-approval of workshops are required by that state's licensing board, in which case the amount of CEU's given may vary.
